I am very happy to announce that I have formally partnered with graphic designer and web creator Amanda Albertson to create a new firm named DesignTechWeb. Up until this time we both have been operating independently although we have worked together on a number of projects. After continued collaboration and seeing how our areas of expertise complemented each other, Amanda and I made the decision to join forces as a single entity. And now, after operating that way for a few months, we are proud to make the partnership public!
At the heart of our philosophy, and the name of the firm, DesignTechWeb, is the acknowledgement of both the graphic design and the technology components which go into the creation of sophisticated and secure websites. Together, Amanda and I have nearly 40 years of web experience. We have designed websites, marketing and systems for companies large and small – from restaurants to not-for-profits, from healthcare providers to lawyers. Today we choose to concentrate primarily on small to medium sized local businesses and the not-for-profit sector.
DesignTechWeb concentrates on web design, development and search engine optimization, specializing in content management systems that you can easily update yourself. All websites are custom designed for each client. Through integration with social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, a full service approach can be implemented to meet the varied needs of different organizations.
I am very happy about this partnership, and I hope you will visit us over at http://www.DesignTechWeb.com. And, of course, we hope you will call us if you have any website or social media needs! This site, MichaelCarnell.com, the site bearing my name, will remain up and functional, will house my occasional podcasts, and will be where I can go on diatribes about system maintenance, security and mobile technology.

No slight of hand or shifty footwork involved, I am just going to be doing business more under my own name instead of the “Palmettobug Digital” monicker. Why? Well first of all most people know my business and work by my own name anyway, so the company name was just confusing things a bit.
Second, some people don’t know what a palmettobug is or have bad feelings about them, so that identity wasn’t working. In truth, a lot of folks visit the site looking for exterminators! This showed me that I needed to take a dose of my own medicine and clarify my identity. I preach this all the time to other people and organizations, I just had to follow my own advice.
Finally, I really just need my work to be more identifiable as mine. When I teach a class or do a social media consultation for someone, it is me, Michael Carnell, doing that. That is the name people know and trust, so that is the face I needed to put on my work. I will also be bringing this site together with The Social Media Monster site in the very near future to further reduce the multiple personalities.
It doesn’t hurt either that if you do a search for Michael Carnell on Google, Bing or Yahoo the entire first page is me. If you search on any of those other terms I am there, but not as strong. I want to be where the people are!
I hope this doesn’t confuse anyone, and I would love to get your feedback. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of me dropping the separate identities of “Palmettobug” and “The Social Media Monster” and going by “Michael Carnell”.
