Botany Bay on Edisto Island

Botany Bay IslandBotany Bay Plantation is now a heritage preserve an wildlife management area. Locared in the ACE Basin, it is one of the most distinctive wildlife ecosystems along the Atlantic Coast. Not only that, it is secluded and beautiful too. We saw lots of wildlife and I took tons of pictures and a bit of video that I will be posting later.

The area is open for general public visitation during daylight hours (1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset). The area is closed on Tuesdays and for scheduled special hunts. All visitors are required to obtain at day use pass at the kiosk located at the main gate off of Botany Bay Road. Fig Island is closed to all public access. Jason’s Lake is open for adult-youth catch and release fishing Friday-Sunday.

Swimming in the Creek

Ok, so maybe they were all swimming and I was kicking back with a cigar. Regardless, all were relaxing!

Russell Creek at Edisto Island

Salt water cures all ills, and the water is beautiful today. Also lots of wildlife – dolphins, rays, pelicans, a swallow tail kite, hummingbirds, and much more!
